Weekend Prevue: Quarterfinals 2
Six Teams Hunt Four Semi Final Slots
The Western Basketball Association
(WBA) Lucozade Men's Basketball Championship is now down
to the quarterfinal round (Final 6). The spotlight turns
on yet again to the Montego Bay Cricket Club court where
six teams will be competing to occupy only four slots in
the coveted semi-final round.
On
Friday, the list of games will see Innercity Avalanche
doing battle against Sav-La-Mar Hawks at 5:30pm on
Friday. Hawks won their first playoff encounter 74-68
behind six three pointers by Kareem Hibbert who also scored game-high 36 points. He
receive support from Terrence Pate and Kenneth
Blackwood with 14 and 12 respectively.
Preceding game one, Hoopers will look to cage Granville
Jaguars just as they did last Sunday when they defeated
them 81-70. Neville Claire made a blistering 35
points to route the title favorites. While Jaguars' were
cramped expect that their attacks to revolve around
their star-studded line-up which includes the likes of
Leroy Lawrence, Douglas Powell and
Huwayne Blake in an effort to regain some form.
Saturday's double-header will see Railway Tigers making
an attempt to avenge their 93-56 loss to Hawks on
Tuesday. Hawks were just too much for Tigers, Regardless
of the defeat, Tigers' Tammy Davis now holds the
record for rebounds, grabbing 34 against these very
opponents! For them to have a chance against the birds
from Westmoreland, Tigers will be banking heavily on top
players Davis, Detroy Jewery and Jason Blake.
At 7pm, Jaguars will aim to devour their neighbors
Wolfpack for a second time in this playoff. In their
last meeting Jaguars scored 102 to Wolfpack's 66 and
will be aiming make the wolves an extinct species.
Mid-season champions Avalanche, should be still smarting
from last weekend's close 74-68 loss to Hawks, should
start big favorites to crush Tigers, especially if top
players Chayne Topey, Cleon Morgan show up
in top form. Topey is averaging 21 points per game in
the playoffs.
Dominance is the operative word for Hoopers these days
as they look to continue their unbeaten run. They will
be up against Wolfpack in Sunday's final game. Once
Neil Samuels, Andre Uter, Vaughn Lee
and Phillip Morrison play at both ends of the
court, Hoopers could see all their glitter dimmed.
Current playoff standings are available
here.
