Weekend Prevue: Round Fourteen

Two Teams Look to Extend Win Streaks


On Tuesday night Hoopers rushed to their third straight win in the Western Basketball Association Lucozade Sport Men's Championships on after bouncing Railway Tigers 69-57 in the lone game at the Montego Bay Cricket Club court.

Detroy Jewery assuming the role as the go-to guy scored a game-high 18 points for Tigers, who got off to a fast start, but his team still lost the first stanza 22-14 to a revitalized opponent. Anthony Christie contributed with 13 points, 4 rebounds along with three assists. Tammy Davis was big on defense with seven blocks and a 11 points/10 rebounds double-double performance.

Both teams played equally well in the second stanza; managed just twelve points a piece in the second quarter, but Hoopers put a strangle hold on the game to lead 53-41 at the end of the third.

Andrae Morgan leg his squad with 14 points, while Marlon Comrie for his second straight game scored in double figures. He made 13 points and grabbed eight boards. Kemar Dean 10 points rounded out the scoring.

Action will continue this Saturday with two games. These games will determine the placement of the four remaining team who will contest the all important playoff round.

At 5pm, Railway Tigers (4-7) will face Innercity Avalanche (8-3) in the curtain raiser with hopes of brushing off their previous loss to Hoopers on Tuesday. Next  league leaders Granville Jaguars will hope to maintain their eight game win streak when they do battle with the veteran Sav-La-Mar Hawks at 7pm.
