Weekend Prevue:
Round Thirteen
Avalanche and Jaguars Jostle for #1
Granville Wolfpack will be off this weekend, but
Granville Jaguars (7-3) and currently residing in second
place behind Avalanche as a result of being off last
week will be more than ready to face-off against Bay
City Lions (2-9) at the Montego Bay Cricket Club as
action in the Lucozade Sport Men's Basketball
Championship continues.
Jaguars have being quite dominant, toppling all and
sundry to six straight victories. On Saturday @ 5pm they
will continue to rely on the scoring prowess of
Huwayne Blake, Leroy Lawrence and the support
of Marvel Anderson who continues to reap a
double-double per game. Lions on the other hand has
improved tactically, while it has not reflected in the
win column, they are not a push over team and
demonstrates the ability to topple any team once they
have a good day.
Floyd Dixon continues to demonstrate his leadership
over his brood; as a result several guys
have stepped up this year. Expect Don Cameron,
Damion Henry and the veteran sharp-shooter
Richard "Lenky" Thomas to be spot on.
Sav-La-Mar Hawks (6-4) will entertain the Railway Tigers
at 7pm, but anticipate some exciting basketball as it
will be land versus air. Hawks' improved their offensive
average when they demolished Wolfpack last weekend 103 -
79. Their effort has gotten the attention of all the
other teams who may have formerly view their season as
null and void. Expect Kareem Hibbert to maintain
his 20 point average, supported in tow by the
twin-towers of Dillon Hodges and team captain
Maurice Rodriques on the offensive and defensive
end. Tigers' will be without firepower as both Dave "Puwee"
Black and Jermaine Rerrie have accepted the
call up to represent Catherine Hall All-Stars in the
2008 KFC National Basketball League and as a result
Caustant Holness and Tammy Davis will be
again bestowed with the responsibility to carry the
torch for any chance against Hawks!
Preceding the KFC NBL encounter between hometown team
Catherine Hall All-Stars and Runnin' Rebels out of
Kingston at 4pm, reigning Mid-Season champions and
current MBC leaders Innercity Avalanche (8-2) will want
to ensure a victory so they can stay a point ahead of
Jaguars when they tackle beaten mid-season finalist
Hoopers on Sunday @ 6pm.
Hoopers will hope that they now have found the antidote
to their rival's ability to defeat them twice already
this season. With so many options on offense, who will
lead the charge or will too many good players which this
team has, spoil the broth? When will they recognize that
defense is the key to victories? Avalanche will expect
that Coach Galton Taylor have riveted his
philosophy into his team's head. Cleon Morgan,
Dufton Shepard, Nicholas Watson and Dane
Morris have changed the look of this team this
season but will they continue to have the winning
formula or can Hoopers turn the table?
