REACH FOR VICTORY SUMMER SPORTS CAMP 2007
The
“Reach for Victory” Basketball Camp is a follow up to
the Whole Life Ministries Building of Champions program
carried out in some 44 schools in 2002-2006 in Hanover,
Westmoreland and St. James with the help of USAID,
Government of Jamaica, Global Fund and the Western
Basketball Association.
The program was
evaluated by Hope Enterprises (Caribbean Sports Reach)
and found to have significant effects on the attitudes
and behavior of children in the areas of conflict
resolution, sexual responsibility, self esteem and other
areas. In 2006 a camp was conducted in partnership with
the Western Basketball Association which proved to be
successful, based on this success Caribbean Sports Reach
and Western Basketball Association will host their
annual summer sports camp under the theme: “Reach For
Victory – If I can, you can, we can all be Champions of
Change.
The camp will target children in the eight to fifteen
(8-15) years age group. The camp will expose the
children to basketball, football and netball, life
skills involving decision making, sexual choices, career
talks and motivational speakers. The camp will include
an awards ceremony and various interactive sessions with
the children. The children involved in the camp will be
followed up in their schools and by the formation of
clubs which will seek to enhance their talent, general
self esteem and life skills on weekly basis.
Camp commences for three (3) days, Wednesday, August 8
to Friday, August 11, 2007 at the Montego Bay Cricket
Club court. Each day the camp will start at 9:30am and
run until approximately 3pm.
Registration is free and
lunch will be provided for the kids who participate.
