PACERS DOWNS KNIGHTS IN TOUGH
TUSSLE
The Mobay Pacers
scrambled to a 33-32 win over the Naldi Lady Knights in
the first game on Sunday night. Surprisingly, both teams
got off to bright starts and after five minutes the
Pacers led 5-3, with personnel rotations aplenty and an
even spread of contributors.
Pacers continued to be marginally smoother up to quarter
time with Danielle Ellis and Jody-Ann Redway
both tallying two points to gift their team a 9-5
advantage.
The expected misfiring began in the second quarter with
Pacers’ shooting percentages slumping which gave Lady
Knights the advantage as they clobbered their opponents
12-0 to keep their noses in front 17-9 at the half.
In the second half, both teams again got off to
blistering starts. Both teams executed well and matched
up well both offensively and defensively. Pacers
searched for better offensive combinations and chipped
away at Lady Knights’ lead through more reliable work
from Ellis, Redway and others. However, Knights
weathered the onslaught and managed to end the third
quarter level (11-11).
By the time the last period got underway the Knights
still held a comfortable lead (28-20) and despite some
reliable inside scoring by Toby-Ann Dunkley they
could not hold it together. Pacers’ Danielle Ellis
spearheaded her team’s attack with (15 points, 5
rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals) to rupture Lady
Knights’ lead and carve out an impressive 13-4 run on
their way to the win. Pacers’ Redway and Samantha
Dunnison ended with 6 points each as their
contribution, while on the other hand, Knights’ Dunkley
top-scored for her team with 14 points and 3 rebounds,
she was given support by Alicia Dawkins (10
points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals) in their
losing cause.
