Angels whip Pacers - Reclaims top
Spot
Behind
a superb performance from Donesha Love, the Mobay
Angels defeated the Mobay Pacers 57-34 in their WBA
Female Basketball League (FBL) match at the Montego Bay
Cricket Club court on Sunday evening.
Love scored a rare feat in the FBL, racking up a
double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Omesha
Peterkin had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the
Angels while Ladonna Lamonth added 7 points, 10
rebounds and 4 blocks. Pacers’ Jennifer Wilson
top-scored with 14 points along with 10 rebounds of her
own.
The Pacers, who were without their star inspirational
player – Danielle Ellis were unable to keep up
with Angels’ offensive output. The first quarter was a
basket for basket affair, with scores only differing by
two points at the end of the quarter. Both teams were
finding it hard to score, with Pacers shooting at 33%
from the field and Angels just 25%. Nevertheless, Angels
notched an early 7-5 lead at the first break.
The second period saw Angels come out firing, scoring 22
for the term compared to the Pacers’ 10. Both teams
improved their accuracy but the later lost out in the
rebounding stakes, pulling down only seven boards to the
Angles’ 12 for the period. The main break saw Angels
ahead 29-15. The third quarter resumed, despite playing
with more purpose, Pacers just didn’t have enough to
catch up their opponents. Angels now led 44-26.
Love and Peterkin continued their dominance in the final
period, while Wilson played hard to keep the Pacers’
scoreboard ticking over but sorely lacked assistance on
offence as a result they lost the period 13-8.
Novella Gordon (9 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) and
Shanice Howe (6 points, 7rebounds, 4 steals, 1
block) contributed in a losing cause. This win now
safely cements Mobay Angels ahead of defending champions
Lady Avalanche with 15 points and 14 respectively.
