OVERTHROWN!
The stage was set for this showdown as the defending
President's Cup champions - Rainbow Storm were favorites
to defended their title. Only to be smitten by the Jags
in two semi-final games.
The first game was on Saturday, Storm succumbed heavily
to the claws of the cats 65-51, thus setting up an
eagerly anticipated game two the following day Sunday at
Montego Bay Cricket Club.
For the defending champions to repeat as title holders
they had to win this game and do so convincingly by 15+
points. That was not to be as their destiny was sealed.
Led by Division 2 finals MVP Huwayne Blake,
Jaguars clawed their way back into the game after
watching Storm run drills around them in the first
quarter to regain the lead in the second going into
half-time 30-26 leaders.
Storm were resolute and stepped up their game and
execution to regain a narrow 2 point advantage in the
third term. The score at this point was 43-41. With time
ticking away both teams went on the attack scoring a
combined 40 points between them (Jags 22, Storm 18). As
the final whistle blew to end the match so did Storm's
hopes.
Huwayne Blake racked up game and team high 26
points, Leroy Lawrence made fourteen and 5
rebounds while Dinwal Kaisley scored 12 points in
their 66-62 victory. Despite the loss Nicolas Rhoomes
had a good game with 18 points, four rebounds,
Orville Blake had twelve points and five rebounds
and Rohan Brown added ten.
Trojan Condoms/Pharmaton President's Cup Finals
is set for Sunday, Nov 4 at 6:30pm @ Mobay Cricket Club.
Jaguars are now awaiting their winners from tonight's
game.
