NBL ACTION HEATS UP THIS WEEKEND

Early leaders Tivoli Wizards and the JDF will face teams at the bottom of the points standing when the Flow/National Basketball League (NBL) continues tomorrow at the National Stadium courts.

In the opening game at 6:15 pm, Tivoli entertain Braves Chiefs, while the JDF take on Arnett Rockers at 8:00 pm.

Tivoli and the JDF scored victories in their two games so far to sit atop the standing with maximum four points, while their opponents for today's games, Braves and Arnett, have lost their two opening matches, making the front-runner favourites to make it three wins from three matches.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Dennis Hutchinson-coached Tivoli will be looking for their fourth straight win against the Portmore Flames at 8:00 pm, while newcomers Selassie Gardens tackle Blazing Panthers at 6:15 pm.

In the Western Conference, Montego Bay's Hoopers will go for their third straight win tomorrow against city rivals Catherine Hall Allstars at 8:00 pm in the second of two games at the Mobay Cricket Club. The Hoopers' Neil Samuels and Levar Rose will be expected to lead the team to victory after impressive performances in their first two matches.

In the opening game at 6:00 pm, the Innercity Avalanche and Savlamar Hawks will both go for their first win this season.

Meanwhile, on Sunday second-placed Granville Jaguars take on Hoopers in what should be a difficult game for both teams who are tied at the top of the standing with four points.

Over in the central conference, former stalwarts Team AAAH go for their second win from as many starts when they meet the Spaulding Hippers at Lionel Town starting at 3:30 pm.

In the second game at 5:30 pm, Victory will go for their second win in three matches against Manchester Pythons, who are yet to play this season.

Victory lead the Central Conference group after a win and a loss with three points, followed by Team AAAH with two points after a win in their only match thus far. The Hippers have one point after losing their lone game, while Nain and Pythons are yet to play a match.

In the eastern conference, Pure Playaz, who defeated Morant Bay in the only game of the group last weekend, will take on Buff Bay at Folly Oval, while Yallahs go up against Portland Piston at Bath at 3:30 pm.

There are 27 teams in action from four conferences in the 2009 NBL, powered by Flow, with eight advancing to the play-offs in November.
