Spartan Health Club and JaBA launches its "Fit Nation"
Executive Challenge KINGSTON, Jamaica - Spartan Health Club has
agreed to a two year sponsorship deal with the Jamaica
Basketball Association, which will see both the Men's
and Women's National Teams, Development Squad and JaBA
Executives get memberships at the prestigious and
legendary fitness club. The National Basketball Team -
"Team Jamaica" which won the Caribbean Championships on
their quest to 2012 London will utilize the health club
when they are in town training for their next qualifying
tournament Centro Basket games in 2010.
Spartan Health Club's General Manager Dr. Terri Karelle-Reid
and JaBA's President Ajani Williams after the signing.
This means Spartan will eventually have the presence of
NBA players and coaches working out at its facility as
both Samardo Samuels and Jerome Jordan are
likely first round picks in upcoming drafts. The team is
also coached by Sam Vincent former NBA coach and
player. The women, who did not have any tournament last
year but are expected to this year, are ranked in top 50
in the world out of over 100 countries and should be
coached by WNBA standout Simone Edwards.
The "Fit Nation" Executive Challenge will see some of
JaBA's Executives get in shape and improve upon their
overall health, fitness and well being. Their current
condition will be made known, their goals and then their
achievements over a 3 month period will be documented.
Ajani Williams President of JaBA commented "It
is important that we as Executives of a sporting
organization, look the part, improve or maintain our
health and encourage all in the workforce across Jamaica
to improve, even incrementally upon their health and
well being. I personally have gone from an athlete since
I was around 5 years old to a pro athlete up to 29 year
old, to now being a desk civilian. This can not be good
in the short or long term. We have seen the debilitating
effects of ill health on public servants, staff in
companies and the general public suffering from varying
preventable illnesses."
This sponsorship was made possible because of Mickey
Haughton-James' caring mandate for development of
athletes in Jamaica and from his new General Manager and
former Ms. Jamaica Dr. Terri Karelle-Reid's
insight in ushering in a new platform and drive to
inspire health and wellness among corporate Jamaica and
the country at large.
"Let the Fit Nation Challenge begin, we are looking
forward to seeing the progress of JaBA's Execs and will
be reaching out to other Executives and employees of
company's to join in and reach for their best self here
at Spartan" stated Dr. Reid. The Execs will be
assisted with programs and training tips by famed
trainer Steve Ming.
