NBL special
awardees announced
The spotlight is on the NBL West top players with the
recent announcement of the 2009 National Basketball
League (NBL) Powered by FLOW Awards finalists.
With outstanding results in this season's national
competition, Re-elected Vice-President for Leagues and
Operations, Deon Williams said that coming out
with awarded players highlights positives.
“Western Jamaica has played second fiddle to Kingston
and St. Andrew, yet we are home to an impressive array
of talent." he said.
The WBA season ended recently after the First Caribbean
Int'l Bank Hoopers, the new Flow-NBL West champions lost
out to the Manchester Pythons in the quarter-finals of
the all-island play-offs.
Hoopers had won the inaugural title a few weeks earlier
after dimming the Catherine Hall All-Stars 2-0 in the
best-of-three finals.
The winners have been selected across 13 categories this
season and the WBA came away with four of them:

“These awards are a real highlight for us at the WBA,”
said Williams.
“This is an opportunity to acknowledge some of the
work that goes into succeeding at this level and gives
us a chance to stand back and say congratulations and
thank not only these players, but also the referees,
coaches and the rest of the administrators who all contributed
despite an extenuating season to making
these achievements possible.”
