Avalanche seek to bury Hawks out west

MONTEGO BAY, St James - Inner-city Avalanche will this evening seek to beat winless Sav Hawks for the second time this season when they meet in the return-round of the National Basketball League-West at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, starting at 7:30 pm.

Avalanche's only win this season came at the expense of the Hawks who got off to a slow start, but have shown improvement.

Meanwhile, tomorrow at the same venue, Catherine Hall All-Stars, fresh from their come-from-behind win over Granville Jaguars last Sunday, will hope to be the first team to beat leaders Hoopers when they meet at 6:00 pm.

Hoopers had beaten Catherine Hall in their first round meeting, but All-Stars will be boosted by their gutsy performance against Granville last week.

Hoopers lead with 10 points from five wins, and are tied on points with Granville who have played one game more and have lost twice.

Catherine Hall are in third place on eight points from five games, while Avalanche are next on six points, one more than Hawks.

Meanwhile today, after leading well into the fourth quarter against Granville before losing two weeks ago and being competitive against Hoopers before their game was washed out last week, Hawks will be confident they can win for the first time.

Sav should have the advantage with the veterans Dillon Hodges and Maurice Rodriques, but they must stop the prolific Michael Haughton and O'Neil Clarke.
