Sav Hawks grounded again in NBL
MONTEGO BAY, St
James - Sav Hawks ended the first round of the Flow
National Basketball League-West winless after going down
by 15 points (65-80) to Catherine Hall All-Stars as the
first round ended at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on
Sunday.
Meanwhile, Granville Jaguars beat Inner-city Avalanche
78-60 to finish second in the points tables after the
first round.
Hoopers, who had won their first four games, lead with
maximum eight points, followed by Granville on seven,
Catherine Hall on six, Avalanche on five and Sav Hawks
at the bottom on four points. The
return-round gets underway this Saturday with one game
and another is set for Sunday.
On Sunday, despite a game-high 29 points from Kenneth
Blackwood and double-doubles from Richard Chambers and
Maurice Rodriques, Sav could not prevent their fourth
straight loss.
All-Stars had a four-point lead after the first quarter,
but increased the lead to 20 points (41-21) at half-time
after restricting the Westmoreland team to just five
points in the second quarter.
Once again Goyan Malcolm led the All-Stars scoring with
23 points, along with nine assists and seven steals, Damion Henry scored 20 points, while
Neville Christie
scored 14.
In addition to Blackwood's 29 points, Chambers scored 18
points and had 12 rebounds along with six steals, while
Rodriques had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
In the second game, Jaguars rebounded from their loss to
Hoopers the previous week to dominate Avalanche, rushing
to a 42-26 lead at half-time, thanks to 18 points and 13
rebounds from Leroy Lawrence; 15 points from Craig
Bernard and 11 points from Ryan Harrison.
Michael Haughton led Avalanche with 17 points, while
Nicholas Watson scored 11 points and had 14 rebounds and
Oneil Clarke scored nine points and had nine rebounds. By Paul Reid
