Grand Finals - Game
4
Avalanche keep
series alive
The
LUCOZADE SPORT Men's Championship Grand Final
series is still alive after the Innercity Avalanche
defeat Hoopers at The Montego Bay Cricket Club court on
Saturday night.
With a rain-soaked court, both teams looked down and out
but it was this season mid-season champions Avalanche
who seemed to gain their composure early. Cleon
Morgan and Chayne Topey produced some huge
shots in the second and a thrilling final term to ensure
the Grand Final series goes into a deciding game at the
same venue on Saturday night.
Morgan (16 points, 3 rebounds and five steals) was the
catalyst which kept his team on the victory road despite
trailing 10-15 at the end of the first term. His efforts
along with Topey, Nicholas Watson and Wayne
Morris asserted themselves a bit more to give
Avalanche their first lead midway the second quarter.
Both teams traded baskets early on until Avalanche
outscored Hoopers 24-13 to take a six point lead into
the half-time break (34-28).
Nicholas Day (13 points, three assists) was
proving a handful for Avalanche inside the key area and
team captain Andrae Morgan maintaining his 10
points per game average in the series added seven
boards, three assists and two steals to switch the
momentum in their favour. Guard Ryan Bolt chipped
in with nine points, two assists and four steals. Avs
coach Galton Taylor's decision to make several
substitutions early in the third quarter also helped
Hoopers to outscore them 17-11 and also tie the game 45
all going into the final term.
It didn't take long for Watson (10 points) to regain his
dominance in the fourth quarter. The Avalanche big man
almost nailed a double-double by working the offensive
and defensive boards, making second opportunity baskets
plus setting up team mates with easy shots. Topey had
being busy in the background, snatching steals and loose
balls; keeping their loyal fans pumped up. He scored 13
points along with six rebounds to rally a spirited
effort to extend the series to a fin ultimate Game Five
on Saturday night.
Morris supported the charge with 10 points, 3 rebounds
and two steals.
