WEEKEND
PREVUE: Sept 5, 2009
Tipping off this weekend's triple-header, the Western
Basketball Association (WBA) Men's and Female Basketball
Leagues at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Multi-purpose court,
fan will see the relegated Bay City Lions (formerly Snipers)
will open against Negril Power Rangers at 4:00pm. We are yet
to see the teams play and won't be sure what to expect since
their unit's makeup has changed.
City Knights aim to go three in
a row
The nightcap will pit the Men's Basketball Association
leader - City Knights going into battle with second-placed
Trelawny Tornadoes at 7:00pm. Both teams are coming off
impressive victories last week and will be out to continue
their run of good form in this one.
The Knights put together their second straight victory last
week after demolishing Marchtown Spartans 106-41 and Negril
Power Rangers insisted in forfeiting their appointment with
them. Meanwhile, the Tornadoes, playing their first match of
the season comprehensively spanked the Spartans by a 23
point victory.
City Knights will be led in this game by Omroy Kerr
who, along with Gavin Brown and
Jhuan Bryan off the bench will anchor their attack.
For the Tornadoes, their game MVP of last round
Fitzroy Gordon will help lead the way, along with
contributions from Diego Hines.
Ballers ready for Lady
Avalanche
In
the second game of the evening, Innercity Lady Avalanche
will be aiming to extend their record to two straight, but
they will first have to overcome the powerful defending WBA
Female Basketball League champions the Unique Ballers of
Trelawny.
Both teams meet after wining their first games, Unique
Ballers bounced Mobay Pacers 60-19 and Lady Avalanche
knocked off Naldi Knights 37-29 last Saturday to setup the
matchup of the unbeatens.
Unique will be relying on the tandem duo - Tracy-Ann
Kelly and Zandria Dell. On the
other hand, Lady Avs will hope that Nicole Dias
will recapture her good form and Ladonna Lamonth
remain just as reliable.
