Both Female
and Men's Basketball Leagues tipoff August
The still unsponsored Men's Basketball League (MBL) will
again showcase the very best and upcoming talent Western
Jamaica has to offer. This competition has been the feeder
program for the acclaimed and recently concluded Lucozade
Sport Men's Basketball Championship. The line up this season
will see Bay City Lions, City Knights, Marchtown Spartans,
Negril Power Rangers, Sav-La-Mar J-Hawks, Trelawny Tornadoes
to name a few vying for top honors and a spot in the 2010
Lucozade Sport MBC.
This season will see the reinsertion of Western Basketball
women's teams, providing a return to consistent men's and
women's double headers. Taking to the courts this season
will see the reigning champions Unique Ballers going after
back-to-back titles, while last season beaten finalist
Innercity Lady Avalanche, Mobay Angels, Mobay Pacers and
Naldi Lady Knights putting up stiff challenge for the Female
Basketball League trophy.
The 2009 MBL campaign begins on Saturday August 8th while
the FBL starts the following week on Saturday, August 15.
With games slated to be played on Sundays, this will provide
extra opportunities for junior players and families to get
to games, and increasing opportunities for spectators to see
multiple games in a weekend.
Interested teams should contact the WBA website at
www.wbajamaica.com
or Mr. Deon Williams at 784-2906/890-7109
right away and teams which have already indicated their
participation are urged to submit their entry forms and fees
no later than this Friday, July 31.
