Knights too much artillery for Spartans
It's hard to outscore a team that can finish a game of
basketball with 106 points — they had 54 at half time. It's
equally tough to outshoot a team that's good for 74 per cent
from the field and 43 percent from the arc in the game. But
these were only some of the massive hurdles that newcomers
Marchtown Spartans had to overcome in their first ever game
at this level.
The Knights' shooting performance was nothing short of
spectacular. They had a huge inside presence, playing the
inside/outside game to perfection, with crisp ball movement
giving, their shooters plenty of daylight. Every time the
Spartans made a run, the Knights broke their hearts from
outside.
In the first quarter Knights outscored their opponents 28-7,
then 26-8, 27-18 and 25-8 in the final, trumping Marchtown
106-41.
Omroy Kerr lighted it up, even connected on
six of seven triples to finish with 32 points, 7 rebounds
and 2 steals. Gavin Brown finished with 13
himself, to go along with 4 assists. While Jhaun
Bryan came off the bench to score a double-double -
11 points and 10 rebounds - including an amazing dunk in the
second quarter.
The Spartans were able to get points on the board themselves
— just not enough, only to finish with only 41.
Royal Ferguson was consistent with 15 points and 15
boards to go along with his five steals. Kaydian
Ferguson and Timoy Dixon both
chipped in with 9 points respectively in their debut.
