traveled to face the Bay City lions
on Friday in their Men's Basketball League match up. They
were looking to continue their fine form that saw them pick up
two victories in their last three matches. While the Lions
are healing after a snarling 62-45 defeat last week at
the hands of the City Knights. Lions were hoping to turn
things around at home in this one and did just that after
holding on for the thrilling two point win.
In the first term it was the visiting Tornadoes who made the
most of their scoring opportunities taking a 13-9 lead.
Lions’ shooting slightly improved in the second term, but
the Tornadoes extended their lead thanks in part to a superior
rebounding edge. Leading by 3 at halftime (23-20), the
Tornadoes slowed down in the third while the Lions exploded
for 18 points, on 13 made field goals to creep within two
points (40-38).
Lions took the lead midway the final term for the first time
and never relinquished the advantage. Tornadoes gave a good
fight down to the wire, but the Lions were too strong making
27 points while hampering the Tornadoes to only 23 points.
For the home side Lions, veteran Don Cameron proved that he
still got it when he top scored with 20 points, while Floyd
Dixon added 15 points, 8 rebounds and three assists. Christopher Sterling rounded out the scorers with 10 points,
7 rebounds and two blocked-shots.
Tornadoes' Huntley Dehaney was in fine form despite
the loss with a 16 points, 17 rebounds double-double effort.
Orville Ennis added 15 points and 3 rebounds.
Both Lions and Tornadoes are locked on six points, two
behind league leaders City Knights with eight, while the
Marchtown Spartans are trailing with four.
