Wolfpack
sneaks past Tigers, level series
The Granville Wolfpack lived another day on Sunday night
when they claimed a close four-point win against Railway
Tigers in Lucozade Sport Men's Basketball Championship semi
final round at the Mobay Cricket Club Multi-Purpose Court.
Both
teams powered out in the first quarter to boast a hefty
16-15 score line, but it was the Wolfpack who maintained a
slim lead throughout the match. They won the second quarter
15-12 and the third 19-15; holding on to a eight-point lead
(50-42)
But it was the Tigers outfit whom clawed their way back into
the match with the final quarter proving to be a see-sawing
affair – outscoring Granville 14-11 but their resurgence was
a little too late allowing Wolfpack to hang on to a 61-57
victory.
Despite some accurate shooting from the Tigers (40 per cent
from the field opposed to Granville’s 32, it was the
turnovers and the Wolfpack’s ability to draw on their bench
which was the key to the game.
It was Tammy Davis who led the way for the Tigers,
snagging 14 points and clutching seven rebounds. Davis was
assisted by Anthony Christie who managed a handy 13
points. Jason Blake also chipped in, making 12 points
at 80 per cent from the field, while Detroy Jewery
added 10 points, 11 rebounds double-double.
For the Wolfpack, it was Andre Uter's return and
stand-out performance which spurred his team's survival
instinct. He bagged game-high 28 points and 9 boards.
Lawrence Dowman who was also absent in the first game,
returned in good form, hitting 13 points and grabbing eight
boards, with Phillip Morrison adding 10 pints and
seven boards to Granville's tally.
Wolfpack had to make a 180 degree turnaround on their
performance from last week and this this they did to level
the best-of-three series at 1-1. The crucial game 3 will be
played this Friday, June 26 at the same venue at 5:30pm.
