Flames
torches Jnr. Avalanche
The reigning mid-season champions, Lucea-based Central
Flames have moved one game clear at the top of the
Lucozade Sport MBC ladder, with a commanding 85-62
victory over the Innercity Jnr. Avalanche at the Montego Bay
Cricket Club Multipurpose court on Sunday night.
It was a clinical performance from the ladder leaders, with
their swarming defense holding the Jnr. Avs to a mere 30
percent from the field, while shooting an impressive 57
percent themselves.
The Flames had three players that scored in double figures,
with Damian Haughton (18 points, 8 rebounds & four
steals) skipper Craig Dorman (17 points, 6 rebounds &
four assists) and Julian Walker (10 points) setting
the tone early, and then finishing the demolition in the
second half.
Forward Nicholas Watson (21 points, four rebounds),
Mickey Haughton (15 points) and Vannoy Rochester
(15) were the high scorers for the losers.
In fairness to the Jnr. Avs, they were really competitive
and had a chance as they stayed close to the victors in the
first (16-22), third (15-20)and fourth term (20-23), but it
were squandered opportunities in the second (11-20) which
Central capitalized on and quickly had Innercity facing a
double digit deficit. From there the issue was sealed and
Central never relinquished control of the game.
