MONTEGO BAY, St James - Inner City Avalanche will
debut in the 2010 Western Basketball Association's Men's
Basketball Championship (Division 1) league when
they take on Trelawny Tornadoes at the Montego Bay Cricket
Club, starting at 7: 00 pm on Saturday .
Avalanche were demoted form the NBL-West last season and is
one of seven clubs taking part in the competition that
started last weekend.
The teams are- Granville Wolfpack, Central Flames, Hopewell
Vipers, Trelawny Tornadoes, Sav-La-Mar Hawks and Inner City
Avalanche and Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights.
According to president of the WBA Donalda Reid, the
goal this year is to return to games to the community courts
but admitted this might not happen until in the return round
as most of the courts required a lot of work to get them
into playing condition.
Meanwhile the president expressed optimism that they are
anticipating an exciting season despite a late start.
On Saturday Tornadoes will be seeking to avoid a second
straight loss after being beaten 66-42 by Sav Hawks, the
other demoted team.
There were also wins for last season's Division 2 champions
Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights who beat Granville Wolfpack
67-60 and Central Flames who beat Hopewell Vipers 62-057 in
a Hanover derby.
Two more games will be played on Sunday, Wolfpack and Flames
will meet in the first game at 4:00 pm followed by Vipers
against Knights.
