Warriors
feel the burn
As action continued in the Lucozade Sport Men's
Basketball Championship last Saturday and Sunday two
high scoring sides battled to the end on Cottage Road, as
the Montego Bay Boys Club Warriors played host to the
Central Flames out of Lucea. The Warriors were coming off a
loss the weekend before to the Vipers, while the Flames a
win against Tigers, and just like all of the other weekend
games for this round, it was won by the road team.
The
first quarter saw Flames rattle off 22 points and take a
four point lead into the break. Warriors tried fighting back
in the second term but ran out of steam a few plays later,
giving the opposition latitude to amass another 22 point
quarter and a commanding 44-30 lead by half-time.
Things were different in the third quarter, it was obvious
that the Warriors went back to the drawing board and came
out more purposeful and persistently slashed Flames' lead.
In fact, with three players in double digits Boys Club
dominated, scoring 19 points while limiting Central to only
14 but still trailed 49-58.
A continued late game dominance by the Warriors in the final
quarter brought them to within six points (15-12). Both
teams had the fire power to win it in the final minutes, but
it was the Flames who held their nerve to register 70-64
win.
Overall both teams had very similar team stats, with both
teams shooting greater than 50 per cent from the field.
Individually for the Flames, Craig Dorman top scored
with 24 points, ably assisted by Norbeto Minto 14
points and two boards. While for the Warriors, spearhead
Sheldon Lyle scored 19 points along with seven steals,
Kirkland Sterling supported with 14 points and
Dwight Hamilton made 10 points and four blocks.
