Wolfpack no match for Tigers in their Game 3 rematch

It was the Railway Tigers who were too good in this game, and recorded a terrific victory to claim their first Lucozade Sport Men's Basketball Championship Grand Finals appearance after defeating Granville Wolfpack 69-59 in their game three rematch. This sets up a matchup with the Hopewell Vipers.

The rematch was a result of their previous encounter being blown off due to a bottle throwing incident, by a Granville Jaguars player who had a spat with a Tigers player back on June 27th. Ironically, Wolfpack were playing hands-down their best game of the season and with 2 minutes and 35 seconds remaining were leading the match by 11 points!

In the first term both teams were neck and neck, proving that they both meant business. The second term saw Tigers taking advantage of the undermanned Wolfpack due to the late arrival of most of their players. Tigers now led 31-27 at half-time.

The tempo did escalate for both teams again in the third term, Wolfpack saw the addition of Phillip Morrison who joined the team after missing the first half and quickly made his presence felt with back-to-back 3-pointers, despite his contribution Tigers held strong on their way to a 54-45 point quarter.

Railway continued to dominate in the last quarter, out-rebounding Granville 12-6.

Andre Uter top scored for the Wolfpack with 18 points and 8 rebounds, while energetic Morrison added 11 points and Dwayne Keene was instrumental with 14 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out. For the victorious Tigers, Detroy Jewery top scored with 25 points and 11 rebounds, point-guard Anthony Christie added 10 points with eight boards. Jason Blake and Caustant Holness rounded out the scoring with 10 points also.

Both Hopewell Vipers and Tigers spilt their two meetings this season, Vipers winning the first 66-57; Tigers reciprocated 54-48 in the return round. Both will be aiming to take the advantage this Saturday (July 11), in game one at 7pm and the second game on Sunday at 6pm. Should game three be necessary it will be contested on Sunday, July 19.

All Games will be played at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Multi-purpose Court.
