Dominate Tigers; gets first win
Central Flames confirmed their true intention by punishing
the Railway Tigers on Saturday, belting them with a 16-point
win as play continued in the fourth season of the
Lucozade Sport Men's Basketball Championship.
Central never trailed, owning a 9-point advantage at
halftime, before surviving a bruising third quarter as the
game dissolved into a sluggish grind.
Craig Dorman displayed scorching form with a
game-high 20 points, 8 boards, six assists and two blocks,
Norberto Minto had 10 points.
Detroy Jewery battled tirelessly for the Tigers
notching a team-high 16 points and Tammy Davis added
9 points, 11 boards and four blocks.
The Flames continually picked apart the Tigers' defense,
from the opening tip taking a 9-6 lead at the end of the
first quarter.
Onwards into the second, Tigers' suffered what seemed to be
a massive stroke as Central outscored them 19-13 and placed
several Railway players into foul trouble. By half-time
Flames held a commanding 28-19 lead.
Trailing by 9 early in the third Tigers hit boiling-point
and began a heated fight-back, unleashing a 7-0 run on the
back of some scrambling defense, but were still not able to
shrink the deficit.
The now frustrated Tigers finally found their groove as the
game broke down into a gritty physical battle, but Flames
remained calm as they went to their 'hot-hands' Dorman and
Minto.
Tigers could only get as close as 56-42 in the final two
minutes, but Flames sealed the result and a 21-15 fourth
quarter.
Both teams are in action again on Saturday with the Flames
(1-0) continuing their double-header against the Mobay Boys
Club Warriors and the Tigers (1-1) taking on the Innercity
Jnr. Avalanche.
