LUCOZADE SPORT ATHLETIC WORKSHOP
 

GlaxoSmithKline through its world leading brand Lucozade Sport will be staging the fourth Annual Lucozade Sport Athletic Workshop which kicks off in Montego Bay. The first of three seminars will be held at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort Monday 11th February 2008 and continues next at the Hilton Kingston Hotel in Kingston Jamaica Tuesday 12th February. In keeping with the LSSA mandate and with the Beijing Olympics only a few months away, it is therefore quite fitting that the focus of the workshop this year is on the “Physical and Mental preparation of today’s athlete for major competition”. Leading the seminars will be Mr. Nicholas Morgan; Sports Scientist of the Lucozade Sport Science Academy (U.K.) and he will be discussing  physiological demands of specific sports during training and competition while considering varying environmental conditions and the potential impact on nutrition and overall performance as well as sharing case studies.

Nick brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge in sports, sports nutrition, training and preparation techniques as well as technical expertise in the areas of sport and exercise Research and Development Projects. He has won the British universities National Singles student Tennis Championship as well Men’s County Championships at both the Junior and Senior levels and holds a Masters of Science Degree in Sport and Exercise Science (Physiology) from the University Of Wolverhampton (U.K.).

Our local segment this year will feature a presentation on Strength training and Conditioning by Jamaican IAAF Certified Trainer, Roy Thomas. Mr. Thomas received his IAAF Coaching Diploma in 2006 and holds a Master’s of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies. He is presently a Lecturer for IAAF Level I Coaches Courses as well as Senior Lecturer Track & Field, Anatomy & Physiology at the Shortwood Teachers’ College where he also heads the Physical Education Department.
