LADY AVS HOLD OFF KNIGHTS

In the evening’s other game, defending champions Lady Avalanche were given a scare as they defeated the Naldi Lady Knights 56-35 at the same venue.

Olivia Bowen led the Avs with 16 points while Mahavia Findlator had 11 of her own and reigning league MVP Nicole Dias added 10.

Shadian Hemmings was the standout for the Lady Knights with 16 points while Alicia Dawkins contributed 11 points.

Lady Avs jumped out of the gates early in the first quarter. Terrible passing from the Knights saw them struggle to get through their offensive sets as the Lady Avs applied double and triple-teams. By the end of the first period, the score was 16-4 in favor of Lady Avs. The second quarter was identical to that of the first; Lady Avs outscored their opponents by 12 points to increase their lead to 35-11 by half-time.

Knights came out in the third quarter with all guns blazing, going on an early six to nothing run in an eager effort to close the wide chasm. While they led the third quarter 12-8 it was not enough to dent Lady Avs’ overall lead.

By now the lead was way in favor of the defending champions but give Lady Knights’ they never gave up and had another good quarter only losing by a mere point 13-12.

Action will continue this Sunday as the top four teams advance to the Knockout semi-final round.
