LADY AVS LOSES TWO IN A ROW

The NALDI Lady Knights (Cornaldi) sent out a strong warning to other teams with a convincing 30-26 win over the Inner-city Lady Avalanche. The match at the Montego Bay Cricket Club court was highlighted by some excellent team work, with stand-out performances coming from key Knights' players Shadian Hemmings and Roxanna Wallace.

There was little the Lady Avalanche could do to prevent Hemmings from dominating the game with 12 points, four assists and five steals. Wallace demonstrated phenomenal accuracy from the field to shoot 9 points with three assists. Olivia Hamilton showed her talent as one of the league's best players, finishing the game with 6 points and six assists.
The Knights controlled the tempo for most of the game and despite resurgence in the third quarter, the Lady Avalanche, just did not have enough in the final term. The 4-point win confirms the Knights as strong contenders for the 2007 season.

The first quarter saw the Lady Avs succumbing to the Knights' pressure and unable to find answers to their up-beat tempo which saw them dominate the opening quarter 10-7.
Taking control of the second quarter early on, the Knights demonstrated some great scoring from Hemmings. Lady Avs continued to struggle a bit with ball control, allowing their rivals to go into half-time with a 16-11 lead.

In a change of momentum, the third quarter saw Lady Avs improve their accuracy and place pressure on the Knights' defense through second year stand-outs Tavia Shaw and Mahavia Findlator who both carried the bulk of the scoring with eight and five points respectively. A succession of free throws saw the Lady Avs edge to within one point but this would prove futile as they allowed Knights to win the final quarter 9 to 6.
