2007 JPS BASKETBALL
PARISH LEAGUE
The JPS Parish League will be starting
on Saturday, October 27,
2007 at the Waterhouse Basketball Court @ 1 Drews Avenue, Kingston 20.
The start time for the league is
4:00pm with an opening ceremony and dress parade. An opening game
will be played (teams to be announced).
Several teams from Western Jamaica will get an opportunity to
represent their respective parishes, but first, they will have to
battle it out where more than one team resides. St. James will be
allotted two spots based on the number of team representing. The top
four from the Men's Basketball Championship and the top four from
the Men's Basketball League will contest a knockout with the two
finalist standing in for St. James. Hanover will be represented by
the winner of the Hopewell Cobras, Central Flames match-up. While,
Sav-La-Mar Hawks or Westland Wildcats will lead the charge for the
parish of Westmorland. Trelawny will advance through a combined
contingent from players from Muschett United Bros, Trelawny Trojans
and Martha Brae Lakers.
The format for the JPS league is simple, the 16 second-round
qualifiers will be grouped into two zones, East and West comprising
eight teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to
the semi-finals, where the home-and-away format will again be
employed.
The winning team will pocket $100,000, with second getting $70,000,
third $40,000 and fourth, $20,000. The winner of the mandatory Dress
Parade will take home $5,000.
Kingston's own Aqua Youths defeated Portland's Pure Playaz to
capture the inaugural title.
This is a Jamaica Basketball Association (JABA) sanctioned event.
