The final game in
Round One of the Western Basketball Association's Female
Basketball League at the Mobay Cricket Club Multipurpose
Court will be this Friday at 6:30pm, where the two
bottom-of-the-table teams, Mobay Pacers and Naldi Lady
Knights will meet each other for the first time.
The game is an uninspiring one on paper; but the team
that wins will secure the third sport. Both teams have
showed much improvement as the season progressed but are
still winless and will hope that they can secure a
victory.
Pacers will be depending on Christine Brown and
Jody-Ann Grant in possibly their best game of the
season last week, pushing the highly rated Lady
Avalanche to the limit. While last year's league MVP
Shadian Hemmings, Alicia Dawkins and Tione
Gowe combined should create several headaches for
the Pacers' defence.
In
what is undoubtedly the game of the round, the mighty
Unique Ballers will go up against second-placed
Innercity Lady Avalanche in what should be a cracking
contest as second-round action gets underway in the at
8pm, the Trelawny-based Unique Ballers are yet to drop a
game in 2009 and, therefore, are the team to beat.
Another clinical performance in round 1 saw the Ballers
stave off Lady Avalanche by 22 points, with Tracy-Ann
Kelly in sparkling form with 23 points.
For the Lady Avalanche, the 'double-double queen'
Ladonna Lamonth and Suzzette Virgo will have
to continue their good form from the last two weekends
if they should have a chance to upset the champions.
In Men's action on Saturday, league leaders City Knights
will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten form when they
try to ward off formidable challenge from the Bay City
Lions at 5pm.
