WBA Announces Expansion Teams for Oasis Purified
Water Division 2
Deon Williams, WBA Vice President/Leagues today
announced the names of the eight (8) expansion teams
who will participate the fast-growing basketball
league. According to Williams, "Expansion into the
other parishes outside of St. James was inevitable.
The interest has been there from day one - and we
are extremely pleased that we now have league
representation from Trelawny, Westmoreland and
Hanover.”
The
league was renamed the Oasis Purified Water Men’s
Basketball League (Division II) as main sponsor Jamaica Beverages
Limited replaced its previous water brand Cool Runnings Spring Water
brand with Oasis Purified Drinking Water. This season teams
will compete for trophy, cash incentives and other
prizes to be announced later.
Granville Jaguars, Mobay Boys Club Warriors and Jnr.
Avalanche (now the combined team of last season's Innercity Blades
& Fury) are the only three (3) teams to remain from
the 2006 season. Bickersteth Blazers failed in its
bid to front a complete team, while Hanover Vipers
joined Hopewell Cobras currently 5th
place in the Lucozade Sport Men’s Basketball
Championship. Regulated Falmouth Flames will contest
this season as Trelawny Trojans with the majority of
its players coming from William Knibb High School.
There is interest from another team, if finalized
will bring the total up to 12. The complete list is
