  2008 Men's Basketball Development League gets 'Juiced-up" by Fruta

The Western Basketball Association is yet again experiencing tremendous growth for this season! The Division 2 Basketball League is now the Fruta/Oasis Purified Water Men's Basketball Development League (MBDL) for short. For the third straight year Jamaica Beverages Limited (JBL) through its various water brands have sponsored the men's division 2. Now in 2008 with the addition of 'Fruta - The Juicy Refresher', JBL have answered the WBA's call to the tune of $100,000.00 which includes products for teams each game day.

Western Jamaica's division two basketball competition will again showcase the very best and upcoming Western Jamaican talent outside the MBC, as well as some notable inclusions from other parishes to announced in the coming weeks.

The reinsertion of the Western Basketball women's team sees a return to consistent men's and women's double headers. The lineup will see two newcomers from out of Trelawny - Muschette Stingrays and Unique Ballers will be taking it to the courts this season. 2007 Champions Innercity Lady Avalanche, 2007 runners-up Mobay Angels, Mobay Pacers and Naldi Lady Knights complete the pool.

The 2008 campaign starts for all teams on Saturday July 12, games will be played on Sundays, providing extra opportunities for junior players and families to get to games, and increasing opportunities for spectators to see multiple games in a weekend.

The winners and runners-up of the men's development league will advance to the upper echelon - the Men's Basketball Championship, they will receive championship trophy and cash incentives as well. While the winners of the women's league will receive trophy and cash awards plus the opportunity to participate in the 2009 WNBL.

  • Montego Bay Boys Club Warriors - St. James
  • Negril Power Rangers - Negril, Westmoreland
  • Sav-La-Mar J-Hawks (Westland Wildcats) - Westmoreland
  • Trelawny Tornados - Falmouth, Trelawny
  • United Brothers - Wakefield, Trelawny
