Men's Basketball Development League gets 'Juiced-up" by
Fruta
The Western Basketball Association is yet again experiencing
tremendous growth for this season! The Division 2 Basketball
League is now the Fruta/Oasis Purified Water Men's
Basketball Development League (MBDL) for short. For the
third straight year Jamaica Beverages Limited (JBL) through
its
various water brands have sponsored the men's division 2.
Now in 2008 with the addition of 'Fruta - The Juicy Refresher', JBL have answered the WBA's call to the tune of
$100,000.00 which includes products for teams each game day.
Western Jamaica's division two basketball competition will
again showcase the very best and upcoming Western Jamaican
talent outside the MBC, as well as some notable inclusions
from other parishes to announced in the coming weeks.
The reinsertion of the Western Basketball women's team sees
a return to consistent men's and women's double headers. The
lineup will see two newcomers from out of Trelawny -
Muschette Stingrays and Unique Ballers will be taking it to
the courts this season. 2007 Champions Innercity Lady
Avalanche, 2007 runners-up Mobay Angels, Mobay Pacers and
Naldi Lady Knights complete the pool.
The 2008 campaign starts for all teams on Saturday July 12,
games will be played on Sundays, providing extra
opportunities for junior players and families to get to
games, and increasing opportunities for spectators to see
multiple games in a weekend.
The winners and runners-up of the men's development league
will advance to the upper echelon - the Men's Basketball
Championship, they will receive championship trophy and cash incentives
as well. While
the winners of the women's league will receive trophy and
cash awards plus the opportunity to participate in the 2009 WNBL.
Here are the teams that are anxious to become a part of this
fast growing sports league this season:
