Cedarville rebounds with impressive win over Mount
Vernon Nazarene Mount
Vernon, OH (01-20-2010): After two last-second upset
losses last week, Cedarville University bounced back
last night with an emphatic 75-56 drubbing of Mount
Vernon Nazarene in an American Mideast Conference (AMC)
contest.
Although captain Ricardo Alliman had his
consecutive double-double streak snapped, he still
managed to finish with eight points (all in the second
half), 11 rebounds, four blocks, and three assists, as
the Yellow Jackets took care of business in the second
half after a 28-21 halftime advantage.
The winners played without another Jamaican,
Christopher Walker, who will be out for
approximately four weeks with a knee injury. At 11-7 and
3-2 in the AMC, Cedarville next travels to Rochester,
NY, to face Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday at
4:00 p.m. EST.
KWC defeats Illinois
Springfield to start new streak Owensboro,
KY (01-20-2010): After having their 15-game win
streak halted by Southern Indiana University (SIU) last
time out, 10th-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College (KWC)
returned to winning ways with an 88-75 victory over
University of Illinois-Springfield on the same court
where tragedy struck last week.
During the game against SIU, center Jeron Lewis
collapsed on the court with less than five minutes to
play and died a few moments later at the hospital.
Forward Andree Wilson scored eight points as KWC
shot 80 percent from the foul line (24-of-30) and 40
percent from 3-point range (8-of-20) to move to 6-1 in
Great Lakes Valley Conference play and 17-2 overall.
Valparaiso's defense
stifles UIC Chicago, IL
(01-22-2010):
Valparaiso University used solid defense to score a
crucial 64-58 road victory over University of
Illinois-Chicago (UIC) in a Horizon League encounter
last night.
Guard
Michael Rogers, formerly of St. George's College,
added 11 points, including a clutch three-pointer in the
second half as the winners knocked down vital free
throws to win for only the second time ever at UIC.
Rogers also grabbed an offensive rebound and hit a
buzzer-beater just as the horn sounded for halftime to
give his team a 33-26 edge at the break.
Valpo (9-11, 4-4 Horizon) connected on 26-of-34 attempts
for 76.5 percent, matching a season-high, then held UIC
to 39.6 percent shooting from the field and just 28.6
percent from behind the three point line.
They will conclude a two-game Chicago swing tomorrow
afternoon when they take on University of Loyola-Chicago
at 3:00 p.m. EST.
KWC defeats Illinois
Springfield to start new streak Kansas
City, MO (10-22-2010): Forward Andree Wilson
played 27 solid minutes to lead 10th-ranked Kentucky
Wesleyan College (KWC) to a decisive 80-55 road victory
over Rockhurst University as KWC improved to 6-1 in
Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Wilson was unstoppable inside, finishing with game-highs
of 19 points and 13 rebounds, as KWC won their 18th game
of the season. Playing its third game in five days, the
winners remained in control throughout the contest and
held the conference's leading scorer to 1-of-12 shooting
from the field while outrebounding Rockhurst 47-36 and
forcing 19 turnovers.
