Cedarville rebounds with impressive win over Mount Vernon Nazarene

Mount Vernon, OH (01-20-2010): After two last-second upset losses last week, Cedarville University bounced back last night with an emphatic 75-56 drubbing of Mount Vernon Nazarene in an American Mideast Conference (AMC) contest.

Although captain Ricardo Alliman had his consecutive double-double streak snapped, he still managed to finish with eight points (all in the second half), 11 rebounds, four blocks, and three assists, as the Yellow Jackets took care of business in the second half after a 28-21 halftime advantage.

The winners played without another Jamaican, Christopher Walker, who will be out for approximately four weeks with a knee injury. At 11-7 and 3-2 in the AMC, Cedarville next travels to Rochester, NY, to face Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. EST.

KWC defeats Illinois Springfield to start new streak

Owensboro, KY (01-20-2010): After having their 15-game win streak halted by Southern Indiana University (SIU) last time out, 10th-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College (KWC) returned to winning ways with an 88-75 victory over University of Illinois-Springfield on the same court where tragedy struck last week.

During the game against SIU, center Jeron Lewis collapsed on the court with less than five minutes to play and died a few moments later at the hospital. Forward Andree Wilson scored eight points as KWC shot 80 percent from the foul line (24-of-30) and 40 percent from 3-point range (8-of-20) to move to 6-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play and 17-2 overall.

Valparaiso's defense stifles UIC

Chicago, IL (01-22-2010): Valparaiso University used solid defense to score a crucial 64-58 road victory over University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) in a Horizon League encounter last night.

Guard Michael Rogers, formerly of St. George's College, added 11 points, including a clutch three-pointer in the second half as the winners knocked down vital free throws to win for only the second time ever at UIC. Rogers also grabbed an offensive rebound and hit a buzzer-beater just as the horn sounded for halftime to give his team a 33-26 edge at the break.

Valpo (9-11, 4-4 Horizon) connected on 26-of-34 attempts for 76.5 percent, matching a season-high, then held UIC to 39.6 percent shooting from the field and just 28.6 percent from behind the three point line.

They will conclude a two-game Chicago swing tomorrow afternoon when they take on University of Loyola-Chicago at 3:00 p.m. EST.
