Cedarville escapes upset bid by Taylor

Cedarville, OH (12-21-2009): Senior forward Christopher Walker, still recovering from knee surgery, stole an errand pass with 1:50 to go and converted the lay-up to put NAIA Division II #8 Cedarville University in front for good as the Yellow Jackets narrowly defeated Taylor University 75-69 in a non-conference game on Saturday night.

Another Jamaican, Ricardo Alliman, continued his outstanding senior season as he delivered a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds to pace Cedarville to an 8-3 record. The hot-shooting forward sank eight of his nine attempts from the field and 2-of-5 from the free throw line. Walker had his best game since his return finishing with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Cedarville is off until next Tuesday, January 29th, when they jet to West Palm Beach, Florida, to participate in the Northwood University Tournament.

Rutgers extended their winning streak to five games and should they get past St. Peter's will have a date with nationally-ranked University of North Carolina Tar Heels next Monday, December 28th.

Western Kentucky no match for Louisville

Louisville, KY (12-21-2009): Forward Samardo Samuels was one of six players in double figures as University of Louisville routed Western Kentucky 102-75 on Saturday evening in a game broadcasted live nationally on ESPN2.

Samuels added 14 points and nine rebounds in 22 productive minutes as the Cardinals avenged last season's loss to their rivals who played without their second-leading scorer and leading rebounder.

Late in the second half Samuels brought the packed house to its feet when he rammed home a left-handed dunk off a wayward alley hoop pass to put an exclamation point on Louisville's seventh victory of the season. They next face University of Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday.

Valparaiso dishes its way past Concordia

Valparaiso, IN (12-21-2009): Valparaiso University dished out 27 assists in 33 baskets in an 83-57 home victory over Concordia University last night. Guard Michael Rogers came off the bench to join the party as he shot 4-of-8 from the field and 2-of-3 from the line to finish with 11 points.

Rogers also grabbed five rebounds and handed-out three assists in 21 minutes. The distribution of the ball enabled Valparaiso to shoot 60 percent in the first half as they entered halftime with 51-22 advantage. From there the lead never fell below 22 points as the Crusaders (5-6) cruised to an easy victory.

They return to the court tomorrow night as they travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to take on Indiana University - Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW).
