LADY AVS SNAPS ANGELS WIN STREAK

Boasting an impressive five game win streak, Mobay Angels where cut down to size on Sunday night after losing 44-22 to a re-energized and well-oiled Lady Avalanche side at the Montego Bay Cricket Club court as the season continued in the WBA Female Basketball League (FBL).

Lady Avs successful performance was paced by Olivia Bowen (14 points, 7 rebounds, 8 steals and 3 blocks) and healthy support from Suzette Virgo and reigning FBL MVP Nicole Dias. Despite losing the first quarter 8-6, Lady Avs came back strong to minutes in the second to take the lead and holding off a fighting group of ‘angels’ to go into the half-time break with a 20-15 cushion.

However, the half time margin of five points Lady Avs enjoyed began to expand in the third quarter as they outscored Angels 8-4. The game looked more one-sided as the champions took the halo and wings off their opponents so to speak. Angels now faced with a daunting task had no answer, they were schooled - Bowen and Dias exerted control of the boards at both ends. No one would believe that this was the same Angels team who defeated the champs in an upset back on September 2.

The gap got to nine and for a moment in the fourth things looked hopeful when Angels got on the score sheet first. Nevertheless, it was false hope as Lady Avalanche pummeled the Angels in the final quarter 16-3, Virgo ended with 10 points, 4 rebounds and team high 8 steals, while Dias also made 10 buckets, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block. Highlight players for Angels were: Ladonna Lamonth (8 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals) and Donesha Love (6 points, 4 rebounds and 8 steals).
